With the new release of Apple's Webkit via a nightly build in the "Feature" track, it now supports the use of the @font-face CSS rule that has been shunned by designers for years due to compatibility problems. As people eager to try out the new support for the rule, there is likely to be many problems start to appear.
Giving people free reign over what fonts they can use could mean that sites will start appearing that use barely legible fonts, and may quickly become overused much in the same way as Ajax was (or still is!). There are also other potential problems such as paid-for fonts could be used on a site meaning potential licensing problems due to users browsers downloading a font they would otherwise have to pay for. This could mean that there may be changes to the way fonts site license out their fonts by either charging more to allow customers to use their fonts on a website, or they might disallow the fonts being used on sites altogether; though the latter is hard to impose.
What thoughts do people have on this?
