There's been rumours since the iPhone was announced that Google were planning their own mobile phone. With the release of Android this has been concerned that they are indeed working on their own handsets.

The Android platform is a software stack for mobile devices including an operating system, middleware and key applications. Developers can create applications for the platform using the Android SDK. Applications are written using the Java programming language and run on Dalvik, a custom virtual machine designed for embedded use which runs on top of a Linux kernel.

Sounds like it might be an interesting language to learn. As an incentive to promote development of useful applications for the Google phone they are hosting two competitions, the first of which is open from January 2nd 2008, and the second which will run once the first handsets are out. The first competition will close on March 3rd 2008. So if you're feeling innovative go over to Google Code and try their SDK!
