One of the big web developer and designer events of the new year has already been announced. Web Directions North happens again in January 2008 leaving not much time for anyone who's planning on going to get something organised. I'm not going myself, if anyone reading this does let me know what it was like!
Why Web Directions? Because it focusses on the challenges of building the web - practical and inspiring concepts, technologies and techniques for web designers, developers, product managers, and others whose day to day responsibility is making and managing web sites and applications.
There's a great list of speakers this year:
- Tara Hunt (Citizen Agency)
- Boris Mann (Northern Voice)
- Chris Messina (co-founder of web browser Flock)
- Brian Oberkirch
- Eric Rodenbeck (founder and creative director of Stamen Design)
- Dave Shea (creator of CSS Zen Garden)
- Jonathan Snook
- Jared Spool
- Matt Webb
- Josh Williams (founder and CEO of Firewheel Design, Blinksale, and IconBuffet)
- Indi Young (founding partner of Adaptive Path)
- Jeffrey Zeldman (co-founder of An Event Apart)
- Cameron Adams (author of Simply JavaScript)
- John Allsopp (head developer of Style Master)
- Daniel Burka (creative director at Digg)
- Andy Clarke (Stuff and Nonsense, author of Transcending CSS)
- Douglas Crockford (architect at Yahoo!)
- Anil Dash (Six Apart)
- Kimberly Elam (author of numerous Typography books)
- Derek Featherstone (Further Ahead)
- Brian Fling (author of dotMobi Mobile Web Developers Guide)
I'd say that's a pretty amazing line-up, with the number of topics covered (such as Government sector, CMS, CSS, JavaScript, Usability and Accessibility) there should be pretty much something for everyone there.
