Following the news that Google and Mozilla will be continuing their parnership it's now been announced on the Google blog that they will be entering the browser market with a new offering called "Chrome". Chrome is an entirely new browser built based on WebKit. The browser is Open Source and will apparently be released to 100 countries sometime tomorrow which judging by the date on the post may actually be somtime today for those living in the UK.
We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we're committed to continuing on their path. We've used components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, among others -- and in that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward.
One of the great sounding features is that every tab runs as a different process so if something causes one tab to crash it doesn't take the whole browser out with it. What we're also being promised is a browser that is faster that current offerings too.
One thing it does mean however is that there's potentially one more browser to test sites in.
