Ghost in the Shell was an immensely popular film, so much so that it spawned a sequel, two TV series, a number of computer games and has kept it's die hard fans eagerly waiting for more. To celebrate 20 years since it's first release a special digitally remastered version has been lovingly crafted using the latest animation techniques to bring a whole new experience to watching the film. This new version has been dubbed "Ghost in the Shell 2.0" and should be available for general release in the UK on August 3rd 2009 for both DVD and Blu-Ray formats.
The problem here is that it's got fans split into two groups - those who are angry that one of their favourite films has been "butchered" into a 3D mockery that didn't need an update, and those who see it as a chance to see what the film would have been like if they'd made it today. Either way, it's the same story - it's just the imagery and minor designs that have changed.
